» FIRST DAY OF PLAY REPORT – 1 SEPTEMBER 2010

At the official opening of this year’s Tournament, held on 31 August, deputy headmaster, Martin Huysamer welcomed the 32 participating schools, reminding players of the enormous privilege it is to be playing on two of the country’s most magnificent top courses. A special welcome was extended to Millfield school from the UK and St John’s College, Harare. FNB Private Clients were again thanked for their ongoing support of the tournament

Tournament Director Adrian Norris, said that “the opening day of the tournament was blessed with wonderful weather, with huge anticipation from the teams.

The scores on the first day of play have lived up to expectations, with a number of teams coming in with sub-par scores on a well-manicured Gary Player course.

Current teams to watch are Paul Roos Gynasium, St John’s Harare, Hoërskool Waterkloof, St Stithians Boys’ College and Paarl Boys’ High School but as is always the case, certain teams are still to find their feet as the tournament progresses. I have no doubt that we will see a change on the score board on a daily basis”.
