(in partnership with ESTA and CASIO)

Isabella Bonnet, head of strings at St John's College, has attended two summer schools in Cheltenham, UK, organised by the European String Teachers Association (ESTA). She has persuaded Simon Cartledge and Pat Legg, two brilliant string educators, to come to Johannesburg, South Africa in order to work with teachers and players.

The String Autumn School will be take place at St John's College, starting on Thursday 24 May at 9:00 and ending on Saturday 26 May 2012 at 14:00.

» Simon Cartledge studied violin at Trinity College, London. He has a broad range of teaching experience, which has included peripatetic work, lecturing at Trinity, being a Head of Strings and giving many workshops for both ESTA and local education authorities. Currently he has a thriving teaching practice in Cambridge, which includes regular youth orchestra coaching and an annual visit to Poland to teach on the Zenon Brzewski International Music Course.

» Pat Legg has taught pupils of all ages and in many different places of learning. She took part in the Tower of Hamlets String Project, was professor of cello at TCM, and was instrumental in setting up its degree course which included study of Kodaly, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Alexander Technique and Teaching Skills. She was also a frequent lecturer on Music Education and String Teaching at the Northern Royal College of Music and Guildhall. Pat's cello books are published by Faber Music, and have been in the Associated Board and Trinity Guildhall Exam syllabuses. She also has 200 Ensemble pieces that she has either arranged or composed for varying number of cellos and of various levels of difficulty. Of all her teaching experience she has found teaching adult learners to be the most helpful to her own development as a teacher.
