VLUJ Regatta at the Victoria Lake Club
On Saturday and Sunday (23-24 Jan) the St John’s College Rowing Club participated in the VLUJ Regatta at the Victoria Lake Club in Germiston. This regatta is one of only three regattas on the school calendar which combines school rowing with club and university rowing; creating a vibrant atmosphere and adding to the sense of occasion.
The SJC rowing club performed admirably, with wins for the 1st 2- (1st pair), U16A 2- (U16A pair), U14A 8x+, 4x+ and 1x (U14A octuple, U14A quad and U14A scull).
The crews which did not manage to win still performed very well, with many crews placing second or third in their respective events.
At the regatta prize-giving, held at lunchtime on Sunday, the SJC Rowing Club was awarded the Junior Club Trophy for the best U14/U15 age group, the Trophy for the Best Boys’ School (based on most overall points) and the Trophy for Rowing Excellence which goes to the school which shows the most improvement and overall dedication to the sport.
Thanks must go the boys, parents and coaching staff – all of whom continually give of their time and effort to ensure that the SJC Rowing Club continues to move from strength to strength.
