School Policy – Cellular Telephones
  • The school trusts that the boys will take responsibility for their cell phones at school, and that they will only use them as outlined in this policy.
  • No cell phones may be handed to members of staff for safekeeping. We recommend that boys lock their cellphone in their locker when it is not on their person.
  • Every phone brought to school should have the relevant service provider’s unsuitable content block or parental controls activated. The school reserves the right to check this.
  • A boy’s cell ‘phone must be switched off (not just on “silent”) from when he is dropped off at school until the end of afternoon activities, unless it is being used in the presence of a teacher and with that teacher’s express permission.
  • While on school property, cell phones may not be used for taking pictures or videos, except under the direction and supervision of a teacher.
  • While on school property, cell phones may only be used to make and receive calls and to send and receive messages. The internet and other applications may not be accessed, unless under the supervision of a teacher.
  • If a boy is found using his ‘phone when not permitted to do so; or using it in ways which are not permitted; or if unsuitable material is found on the boy’s phone; or if it is used for any form of cyber-bullying, it will be confiscated until the end of term. Further punishment will be decided on according to the seriousness of the offence.
  • The school’s policy on computer use will apply to any digital devices brought onto the school property in the same way it does to the school’s computers.
  • A boy may only bring a laptop, iPad or other tablet to school when invited to do so by a teacher for a particular lesson. These may only be used on school property for the purposes of that lesson, and it is the boy’s responsibility to look after them.
  • Gaming consoles, iPods etc. may not be brought to school.

The school will not take any responsibility whatsoever for a cellular telephone or other electronic device which is lost, stolen or damaged.
