» Football

Football is the most popular sport in the world, and it is played by more people and in more countries than any other sport. Ever since man was first put on this planet, the game has been played in some way, and wherever the English went into the realm of Queen Victoria’s Empire and beyond as soldiers, missionaries, traders, teachers and adventurers, they took the soccer ball. The word ‘soccer’ was coined in 1863 when The Football Association was formed in England to define the rules and set the game apart from the various other football play at the time. It became known as ‘association football’ which in players’ slang was shortened through ‘associa’ to become a new word for the English dictionary: ‘soccer’.

At St. John’s it is no different. We have over 20 teams ranging from U9 to U13. There are approximately 5 teams in each age group and 10 teams in the Open (U12 & 13) age group. Our coaches are well qualified and they care about the progress of each boy. Please respect their actions and decisions.

The Football Season is short (6 weeks) – however, it is extremely exciting, filled with hard work, dedication, development of skills, and above everything else – fun!

St John’s football etiquette
  • Boys are to be dressed correctly at all times.
  • Tracksuits are to be worn before and after a match.
  • Boys are to arrive half an hour before a match.
  • Boys are to be on time for practices.
  • Good manners are expected after a game, i.e. Thanking opposition and referee.

  • There will be no spitting on the field of play whatsoever.
