The focus of playing golf at Prep is not on winning – we aim to foster an enjoyment of the game itself so that our boys continue to play and enjoy golf all their lives.

Boys are encouraged to practice often and to learn from those with whom they play.  Whether it is to cut a few shots off their handicap or to get their first birdie, eagle or hole-in-one, the boys should look forward to being out onto the course and playing golf.

Prep has two teams of four boys who play in the Inter-schools Golf League on Tuesday afternoons.  The A team consist of the top four boys and the four places in the B team are rotated amongst the rest of the boys, based on their Friday results.

On Friday afternoons, all Prep boys have the opportunity to play nine holes of golf at a nearby course, in order to challenge for places in the teams.  If there are any boys who do not belong to a golf club and do not have a handicap, Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club in Linksfield have a partnership with St John’s, offering discounted joining fees for junior golfers.
