Mission Statement

"Nurturing today's child for tomorrow's world"

St John’s Preparatory is an independent Christian school. Our aim is to enable boys to develop their individual potential through exposure to a holistic range of academic, sporting, creative and cultural activities. Our primary goal is for boys to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to produce well-adjusted, self-confident young boys prepared for the academic, social and life challenges of the College.

Philosophy

The St John’s Preparatory staff believes that each boy is an individual whose unique potential must be developed. As St John’s is first and foremost an Anglican school, a commitment to traditional Christian value is the foundation of all learning and teaching.

In educating boys we strive to provide an environment that will:

  • Foster the boy’s emotional well-being. The staff will promote positive self-concept, pride in accomplishment, self-confidence, and self-discipline.
  • Foster the boy’s social well-being. The staff will promote respect for self and others with whom boys work, play and live.
  • Foster the boy’s intellectual development. The staff will initiate and develop activities that:
Develop the boy's ability to examine and use information by teaching the essential skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Develop research skills, computer literacy and the ability to access, assess and apply information
Develop an awareness of the diverse South African cultures and languages.

On leaving the Preparatory school, boys should have developed a sense of autonomy, social responsibility and a respect for one another and the rights of individuals.
