A small committee made up of Mike Evans, Darryl Morris, Richard Wear, Rob Spargo and Craig MacFarlane met and started planning the Reunion for the Class of 1970 early in 2019.
After Covid, the final plans were drawn up, and the Reunion began with a dinner on Thursday evening before Gaudy Day at the Johannian Club, with spouses/partners.
This was a very special time, as many of the chaps had not seen one another since leaving the College after the final Matric exams and the Final Assembly in December 1970.
Name tags were very helpful, as more than 5 decades meant that everyone had changed, some much more than others!
Friday night we all attended the OJA annual Dinner in the Rene England Auditorium, the Reunion team were all be seated together, and once again the time spent reminiscing and rekindling old friendships was just so very special.
Gaudy day itself was well attended with the Chapel service and then the various activities on offer during the day. For the few who had not been back to the School since 1970, the many changes from the Pre Prep, through the Prep and then the College were real eye openers, showing how the School has grown and evolved over all the years.
The Final Farewells were done on the Burger Field after the sports ended, and it was a testament to the friendships that were rekindled, when the last handshakes and embraces led to the inevitable goodbyes.
However the bonds that have been renewed, have also bought so many smiles and moments to treasure and remember for years to come.
