The 10th Annual St John's College Invitational Basketball Tournament

U16 17 - 19 FEBRUARY 2017  |  U19 23 - 26 FEBRUARY 2017

St John’s College will be hosting the annual Basketball Tournament which is proudly sponsored by Adidas and Hollard. The U19 tournament takes place from 23 to 26 February and is preceded by the U16 Basketball Tournament which takes place this weekend from 17 to 19 February.

Celebrating its 10th year, this is the biggest boys’ high school tournament on the Southern African basketball calendar with 780 boys participating in both tournaments. 24 teams will take part in the U16 event and the U19 tournament will showcase 28 teams represented by schools across South Africa including neighbouring countries Mozambique, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.

The St John’s tournament, which has grown significantly over the past decade, is a testament to the growing popularity of the sport and the development of basketball in schools. “Every school continues to see an exponential rise in the number of boys taking part in basketball which makes this one of the most sought after and biggest invitational school’s tournament in Southern Africa,” says Mrs Ngoza Mazarura, M-I-C Basketball at St John’s College.

A tournament like this provides a competitive environment for our players to hone their skills and also gives our boys the chance to play more games with teams they don’t usually get to play and to play touring sides. The time on the court is an ideal opportunity for boys to welcome back old friends and to makes new ones.

This promises to be our best festival yet as we expect more than 5 000 supporters to descend upon the basketball complex during the U16 and U19 events.

Be part of the action, join us on the courtside.
