Cultural: Public Speaking
The boys at St John’s Preparatory school are introduced to public speaking from an early age. Boys from Lower II to Upper III (Grade 4 to Grade 7) participate in the Edith Cooke Public Speaking Contest where the top Junior and Senior speakers are recognised. Boys need to present a 2 to 3 minute prepared speech, as well as a 1 minute impromptu speech.

The Prep also takes part in the termly Inter-School Public Speaking Festival. During Easter and Trinity terms, boys present a prepared speech, while in Michaelmas term, an impromptu speech is presented. It is the aim of these ‘Chatterbox’ festivals to expose as many boys as possible to public speaking and to develop their confidence.
