/></div> <div id="copyMain"> <p>The Concerned Communities Coalition Launch took place on 3 March at St Andrew’s School for Girls. My thanks to St Andrew’s for hosting us. The launch was well supported and the attached document reflects the schools that have associated themselves with the project. We have received official endorsement by the Human Rights Commission, and are working with them and potential funders to expand this project a much wider range of schools through the Department of Education.</p> <p> The programme involves three dimensions: education, partnership, and co-operation. It is proposed that Heads of schools consider implementing the programme in the following way</p> <ol> <li>Meeting with students and parents from a grade and working through the issues. The presentation used at the launch may be a useful resource, and is freely available in Apple Keynote or Microsoft Powerpoint formats. The size of the document unfortunately precludes its distribution by e-mail. Please contact Pat Schaerer on 011 645 3025 to arrange for a copy on Flash or CD.</li> <li>The resource document that was handed out at the launch is a useful booklet that parents can take home and read at their leisure, and contains many useful strategies and contact numbers. The proof included here is the Cape Town version provided by kind courtesy of Bishops. The Gauteng version contains local contacts and will, as far as possible, contain local statistics (although these are not available in some instances). We are planning a print run for this booklet, and need to finalise our numbers. Please look through the attached proof and, should you be interested in ordering copies, please e-mail your requirements to me before 27 March 2009. The booklets cost R10 per copy.</li> <li>The CCC document attached gives an outline of the philosophical principles upon which the CCC is based, and emphasises the importance of partnerships with a positive vision. The four main principles of the charter are not onerous, and experience shows that parents are extremely supportive of them. </li> </ol> <p>This programme has generated a lot of interest from the media, and I have been inundated with offers of support. I am thus able to offer any school wishing to implement this programme all the resources at my disposal, including references to people who can speak on the topic, references to counsellors and support organisations, as well as logistical and implementation support from myself and the other schools that have started the implementation phase. This programme is a positive intervention, and has been well received in the schools that have implemented it. The implementation stages here are a suggestion based on some pilot projects given with the full understanding of the different nuances of each school’s character and needs.
