The Academy Class of 2021

St John’s College is incredibly proud of the results achieved by our St John’s College Academy Class of 2021. The young men joined us for a celebratory lunch in honour of their wonderful performance in their final matric examinations.

“I have great admiration for the tenacity shown by our Academy Class of 2021. The sheer grit and determination to persevere through the challenges of the pandemic and still manage to achieve these results are truly commendable. They have proven, without doubt, that it is your attitude and not your circumstance that ultimately determines your altitude,” said Mr Mickey Mashego, Head of Community Engagement at St John’s College.

The St John’s College Academy, now in its 14th year, is an after-school enrichment programme for boys in Grades 10 to 12, promoting excellence in Mathematics, Physical Science, English and Life Skills.

The Academy currently serves 72 boys from our neighbouring community of Berea, Hillbrow and Yeoville who attend public schools in Hillbrow and Highlands North.

The Academy strives to develop confidence, empowering boys to achieve the matric results for tertiary education and enabling them to become meaningful citizens in their communities. In addition to subject tuition, the Academy boys are taught life skills to help them reach their goals.

The support St John’s offers includes pastoral care, career guidance, university application assistance and the securing of bursaries or learnerships where possible. The Academy boys attend leadership and revision camps and go on many excursions during their time with us.
