St John's College

St John’s College is proud to present Light on the Night on Saturday, 30 September 2023, a breathtaking spectacle that weaves 125 years of history in an extraordinary fusion of lights and music projected onto the northern facade of our iconic heritage buildings and featuring Mango Groove and our St John's bands live on stage!

Delicious gourmet picnic hampers prepared by Word of Mouth, generous enough to feed up to four people, are also available to pre-order at R750.

Round up your friends and family and join us to experience the past come to life with digitised stories and vivid imagery, showcasing the cherished moments that have shaped St John's. Be dazzled by the creative expressions of the present and watch as we imagine our future on the canvas of our historic building.

Get ready to be swept away by the soulful music of Mango Groove and the enchanting performances by our very own St John's bands featuring our College, Prep and Pre-Prep musicians, creating an immersive symphony that resonates with the heart and soul of our community.

The melodies will complement the evocative sound and music compositions, skillfully interweaving pre-recorded and live performances for an unforgettable auditory experience.

Masterfully crafted by acclaimed artist Marcus Neustetter, in collaboration with OMAi and their revolutionary light drawing Tagtool, supported by the Embassy of Austria, this event is a true celebration of 125 years of excellence, inspired by the boundless creativity of our Visual Arts, Drama, Music, and Language students.

Marcus Neustetter shares his excitement: "The facade of the building is a wonderful canvas that holds a rich past while representing the minds that shape contemporary thinking. I am inspired to respond through improvisation and collaboration and to discover new ideas by layering narratives and birthing visions in the resulting abstractions."

Stuart West, Executive Headmaster, eagerly anticipates this extraordinary celebration in our 125th year. “We are thrilled to be hosting Light on the Night. This celebration will bring our community together for an evening of magic, creativity, and shared experiences that will leave an indelible mark on our hearts."
