Stuart Phipson achieved an average of 90% and eight distinctions in Afrikaans First Additional Language, English Home Language, History, Life Orientation, Life Sciences, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, as well as Further Studies Mathematics Extended.

He was featured on the IEB Commendable Achievements list and included in the top 1% of candidates per subject in Mathematics. He also achieved 99% in his final Mathematics examination.

Stuart attended St John’s for just two years and considers it a school that can pride itself on its excellence in all fields. "St John's is accepting and supportive of all students, no matter their strengths, and that breeds a spirit of brotherhood.”

Stuart’s favourite subjects were Mathematics, Further Studies Mathematics Extended and History, all in which he excelled. He enjoyed playing first-team cricket and second-team hockey, which he recalls as “a huge amount of fun.”

Stuart’s advice to new matrics is to work hard and play hard. "It’s a tough year, and it becomes even tougher if you don’t allow yourself a bit of fun now and again.”

Stuart will attend UCT this year to study Actuarial Science.
