The annual UV Visual Arts Exhibition was a glittering evening that beautifully captured the theme of Truth and Fiction. Giant silver balls and shimmering decor made attendees feel like they had, like Alice, stepped through the looking glass into another world where reality and imagination intertwined.

Each piece of student work on display was breathtaking, the music unforgettable, and the food exquisite, turning the entire evening into a masterpiece in its own right—a testament to the immense talent of every child involved.

The theme, Truth and Fiction, invited patrons into a complex interplay between fact and fantasy, each adding layers of meaning to the other. As Head of Visual Arts, Ms Estelle Potgieter, explained, “Truth and fiction coexist as two facets of human experience, weaving facts and narratives into compelling stories.” In the spirit of Alice in Wonderland, the exhibition embraced the “madness” of the creative process, echoing the Cheshire Cat’s words: “We’re all mad here.”

The Rene England Auditorium was transformed into a shared experience where guests engaged with the works as if looking into a mirror, reflecting on their interpretations and the emotional power of art.

“Each and every child who took part in this ‘spectacle’ was brilliant. I am so proud of all of them,” said Ms Potgieter.

As the evening drew to a close, our community left not only with an enormous admiration for the students’ talent but also with a renewed sense of wonder.
