The St John’s College Academy programme is underway, and it was wonderful to welcome our new families to the induction service in the Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, 28 January 2026.
Grade 6 students from our partner schools, Asteri Primary School and Yeoville Boys’ Primary School, have joined our Prep Academy, while the Grade 10 cohort from Barnato High School and Highlands North Boys’ High School have joined our College Academy.
The new boys processed into the chapel, after which the School Chaplain, the Revd Fr Thapelo Masemola, led the opening prayer. The congregation sang Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer as the opening hymn, followed by a reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah (43:1-7). The scripture encouraged the boys to trust in God’s guidance and embrace the journey ahead with confidence.
The boys were welcomed by Mr Samukelo Masango, Head of Prep Academy and Mr Mickey Mashego, Head of Community Engagement. “Your success is supported by exceptional teachers, coaches and parents who walk every step of this journey with you. Lean on their expertise and wisdom, ask questions, and make every lesson count,” said Mr Mashego in his address.
Mr Dale Jackson, Executive Headmaster, reflected on his own father’s humble beginnings. Despite the challenges he faced, he went on to build a life of purpose and achievement. Mr Jackson encouraged the boys not to be defined by their circumstances, but to work hard and seize the opportunities placed before them.
The Academy students stood for the Headmaster’s Charge, and the school chaplains offered them a blessing for the year ahead.
We look forward to walking alongside these boys and supporting them with all that the St John’s College Academy programme has to offer.
