The St Johns College Class of 2025 Centenary Scholarship cohort has exceeded expectations. Since joining the College in 2021, these nine students have embraced every opportunity, excelled individually and collectively, and set a benchmark for those who follow.
Siza Gule (Head of School 2025) exemplifies what the Centenary Scholarship makes possible. Finishing his school career with 9 distinctions, averaging 94%, including Further Studies Mathematics Extended, Siza earned Honours in Academics, Drama, and Public Speaking, alongside Colours for Debating and Service. His leadership earned him The Long Walk Award at Speech Day, the College's highest honour for a Head of School. Beyond St Johns, Siza served on the Johannesburg Junior Council. He will be attending Harvard University in 2026.
Warona Sotia achieved 5 distinctions with an average of 83%, earning Colours in both Public Relations and Academics.
Alex Scharneck balanced strong academic performance with service, earning 4 distinctions with an 80% average and Colours for First Aid.
Atli Chipu earned 3 distinctions with an 82% average, along with Honours in Public Relations and Colours for Academics and First Aid. As Head of the Community Service Committee, his dedication to others was recognised with the Fleming Award.
Our Centenary students have also excelled on the sports field. Jayden Hoskins earned Honours in Golf and captained the First Team. His recent victory as champion of the NOMADS National Order of Merit Tournament confirms his talent. Jayden will continue his studies and golf development in the United States.
Kele Molwantoa led the First Team Football as Captain, guiding the team to their maiden St Peter's Tournament victory following a silver medal finish in 2024. His leadership earned him Honours for Football.
Menzi Mdleko and Kuhle Simela both earned Colours for Football, contributing to the team's success.
Koketso Ngobeni contributed through First Aid, earning Colours for his dedication to the Johannian community.
Together, these nine young men have accumulated 27 distinctions and numerous Honours, Colours, and leadership positions. They have shown what the Centenary Scholarship Programme achieves when talent meets opportunity. From Harvard acceptance to national sporting championships, from community service awards to academic excellence, they have honoured the scholarship through their achievements and set the standard for all who follow. Their accomplishments embody the St John's College values of Lux Vita Caritas.
The Centenary Scholarship Programme at St John's provides exceptional young men with access to a world-class education, regardless of their financial circumstances. The scholarship covers full tuition and boarding costs.
