On the evenings of the 22nd and 23rd of September, the Memorial Chapel at St John’s College resounded to the strains of Mozart’s celebrated Coronation Mass. Performing to a packed audience on the first night and a full house on the second, the 190 voices of the Chapel Choir, comprising singers from UII to UV and UVI, gave two superb performances that radiated discipline and vibrant energy.
They were supported by an orchestra of 22 staff, student and guest musicians. The four professional soloists were Ilze van Staden (Soprano), Megan Napier (Alto), Chris Mostert (Tenor) and Hendré van Zyl (Bass). The work was conducted by Cameron Upchurch, Head of Chapel Music.
It was a wonderful occasion and a triumph for Chapel Music. Congratulations to Cameron Upchurch and to every chorister, player and soloist on two outstanding evenings.
A big thank you to our College media crew, who captured this magnificent event.
