St John's College

Burger Field came alive as families and friends of St John's College gathered on Saturday, 7 March, for the inaugural St John's College Parents' Association Family MusicFest, brought to you by Standard Bank Private.

The school community, alongside families from neighbouring schools and the wider public, enjoyed exactly the kind of day the school had hoped for, full of music and a genuine sense of community, while raising funds for the St John's Centenary Scholarship Programme, a contribution that will have an impact long after the music stops.

The day began with the St John's Marimba and School Bands, polished and impressively professional. They set the tone early and were a highlight of the day. As the afternoon wore on, Vusi Nova performed a powerful set, before Louise Carver took the stage as the sun dipped behind the College's iconic buildings. By the time DJ Kent closed the evening, guests were dancing under the stars.

Throughout the day, a good spread kept everyone well fed, with pizzas, shawarmas and gourmet burgers among the offerings. The Drinks Garden offered mocktails alongside a popular gin bar and champagne and wine stand and became a relaxed social hub.

The Kids' Zone provided loads of entertainment for the younger ones, with ball pits, crafts, face painting and gaming areas to keep them busy, while the smoothies, slushies and fresh popcorn went down a treat.

Events like this don't happen by accident. Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of parents put in the work to make the day look effortless.

"This event brought people together in the best possible way. From families on picnic blankets to children at play and friends reconnecting at sunset, there was a real sense of joy and belonging," said Hazel Bango Moyo, Chairman of the Parents' Association.

The Parents' Association extends its sincere thanks to Standard Bank Private and SAB Inbev, the vendors and everyone who came out on the day for their generous support in making the day one to remember.

It was a wonderful first edition. We hope to see you at the next one in 2027.
