St John's College

Welcome to our introduction to Music at St John's College, a world-class Christian, African school situated on a magnificent heritage campus in Houghton, Johannesburg.

St John's has a reputation for academic excellence balanced by a diverse and vibrant extra-curricular cultural programme. A number of music scholarships are available to deserving students entering the College in Remove (Grade 8) in 2022.

In our introduction video, we present a series of short, individual performances by our students which showcase the different orchestral and contemporary instruments, including voice, that are available to study at St John's.

These videos were recorded during lockdown in 2020 when the teaching of instruments continued online. The soloists range across all year groups in the College and all music is performed by our young men.

Students can elect to take individual lessons and perform in ensembles such as the Symphony Orchestra, String Ensemble, Chapel Choir, Windband, Big Band, or one of the many contemporary ensembles. St John's offers Music as a Subject as a full matriculation subject up to and including Grade 12.

St John's has a limited number of music scholarships available to students joining the College in Remove (Grade 8). Please download the Music Scholarship and Exhibition Requirement information below.
