St John's College

The academic programme at St John's Sixth Form is designed to deepen intellectual engagement and prepare students for university-level study. Students focus on a carefully selected combination of subjects that aligns with their strengths, aspirations and university requirements.

Cambridge International IGCSE, AS and A Levels are among the most respected school-leaving qualifications in the world, recognised by leading universities globally. For students intending to study abroad, A Levels provide a direct and internationally recognised pathway into higher education. For those studying in South Africa, the programme develops the academic discipline and maturity that give students a genuine advantage at university.

The Sixth Form environment offers students greater independence than traditional schooling, within a culture of accountability and strong academic and pastoral support. The expectation is clear: students take ownership of their studies and their growth.

St John's Sixth Form is recognised as one of the leading Cambridge centres in South Africa and welcomes students from a wide range of local and international backgrounds. Students applying to universities abroad receive dedicated individual guidance throughout the application process, from subject selection through to final offers.

By providing an atmosphere that is less restrictive than high school, students are encouraged to cope confidently with greater personal responsibility and freedom. Our Sixth Form is recognised as the top academic Sixth Form in the country and welcomes international students from all over the world. Once Sixth Form studies are completed, students wishing to apply to overseas universities are offered expert advice and assistance with their applications.

South African matriculants typically enter at A Level and complete an accelerated one-year programme.

Students entering after Grade 9 complete the full three-year programme: IGCSE followed by AS and A Levels. Those entering after Grade 10, having completed their IGCSEs, begin in Lower VI and complete a two-year AS and A Level programme.

Students applying to international universities receive guidance throughout the admissions process. Cambridge qualifications may also be used to obtain South African Matriculation Exemption for those wishing to study at local universities.
