St John’s College has suffered a grave loss of a revered Johannian with the death of Hugh Henry Huggett, an education activist and throughout his life, a man who followed the principle of Ubuntu in his varied and memorable career and in all that he had done.
Ahead of South Africa’s general elections on 29 May 2024, with colourful and competing election posters festooning the commute to school, St John’s College hosted a lively ‘Mock Election’ for our College and Sixth Form students.
Masibambane College celebrated its annual Founders Day on 18 May 2024, marking one of the most significant events in the school calendar. St John's has a long history of partnership with Masibambane College, including governance, sports, culture, funding, and staff development support, and we were delighted to be part of the day.

This latest edition of the Advancement Newsletter focuses on the first-ever St John’s College Giving Day, held over 36 hours from 9 to 10 November 2023. The results were truly remarkable, showing what can be achieved when a community of passionate supporters comes together with a united vision.
St John’s College welcomed Dr Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh (Nash 2006) as the special guest speaker at the 6th Hugh Lewin Human Rights Memorial Lecture on Tuesday, 26 March.
Our Reputation
A famous Rabbi once explained at a funeral that we have two names. The first is the name our parents call us, and our family and friends know us by that name. The second name we are known by is our reputation, and many people, even strangers, know us by that name.
St John’s College is proud to present the 27th St John’s College Easter Rugby Festival, brought to you by Standard Bank, on 28 and 30 March and 1 April 2024, a celebration of the best in schoolboy rugby.
