We see from the Letter of 1918 written by Fr Clement Thomson CR that 102 years ago a pandemic necessitated the school’s closure for a prolonged period.

Naming proposal for science laboratories

Proposal to name science laboratories after Mr William Raphulu and Mr Thomas Kubayi

Mr William Raphulu and Mr Thomas Kubayi are both retiring this year after having served the College as laboratory technicians in the physical sciences department for more than 35 years each.

Michaelhouse, the 2020 St John's College Basketball Tournament Champions

The 2020 edition of the St John's College Basketball tournament, the biggest schoolboy basketball tournament in Southern Africa, drew to a close on Sunday. The tournament featured 56 teams from Southern Africa playing in three age groups - U13, U15 and U19 - on the courts at St John's and Wits from 27 February to 1 March.

St John’s College honoured Old Johannian Mr Owen Nkumane (OJ, Clayton, 1994) by naming the terraces above Burger Field The Owen Nkumane Terrace at Gaudy Day in 2019. SA Rugby Legends caught up with Mr Owen Nkumane to chat about his rugby career, being honoured by his alma mater, and his time at St John's College.
